Musnad Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (RA)
Hadith 31:597
'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Ma'mar informed us, from 'Ali ibn Zayd ibn Jud'an, from Abu Nadra, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) led us in the Afternoon (Asr) prayer one day during the day, then he stood and addressed us until the sun set. He did not leave anything that would happen until the Day of Resurrection except that he told us about it. Those who remembered it remembered it, and those who forgot it forgot it. Among what he said was: "O people, indeed the world is green and sweet, and Allah is making you successors in it, so He is watching how you act. So fear the world and fear women. Beware, for every treacherous person will have a banner on the Day of Resurrection according to the extent of his treachery, which will be raised at his posterior to be recompensed for it. And there is no treachery greater than that of a general leader." Then he mentioned character, saying: "There is the man who is quick to anger and quick to return (to a calm state), so this offsets that. And there is the man who is slow to anger and slow to return, so this offsets that. The best of them is the one who is slow to anger and quick to return, and the worst of them is the one who is quick to anger and slow to return." He said: "And anger is a burning coal in the heart of the son of Adam. Do you not see the redness of his eyes and the swelling of his veins? So if one of you finds that, let him sit down," or he said: "Let him press himself to the ground." He said: Then he mentioned seeking (repayment of debts) and said: "There is the man who is good at seeking (repayment) but bad at paying back, so this offsets that. And there is the man who is good at paying back but bad at seeking, so this offsets that. The best of them is the one who is good at seeking and good at paying back, and the worst of them is the one who is bad at seeking and bad at paying back." Then he said: "Indeed, people are created in different categories. A man is born a believer, lives as a believer, and dies a believer. A man is born a disbeliever, lives as a disbeliever, and dies a disbeliever. A man is born a believer, lives as a believer, and dies a disbeliever. And a man is born a disbeliever, lives as a disbeliever, and dies a believer." Then he said in his speech: "And there is nothing better than a word of justice spoken to a tyrannical ruler. So let not the fear of people prevent any of you from speaking the truth when he sees it or witnesses it." Then Abu Sa'id wept and said: "By Allah, we have been prevented from that." He said: "And you are completing seventy nations; you are the best of them and the most noble of them to Allah." Then the sun drew near to setting, and he said: "And what remains of the world compared to what has passed of it is like what remains of this day of yours compared to what has passed of it."
