Musnad Ahmad 31:717

'Affan narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from 'Ali ibn Zayd, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri and Abu Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Indeed, the last two men to exit the Fire, Allah will say to one of them: 'O son of Adam, what have you prepared for this day? Have you ever done any good? Have you ever hoped in Me?' He will say: 'No, O Lord.' So he will be ordered to the Fire, and he will be the most regretful of the people of the Fire. And He will say to the other: 'O son of Adam, what have you prepared for this day? Have you ever done any good? Or have you hoped in Me?' He will say: 'No, O Lord, except that I used to hope in You.' He said: So a tree will be raised for him, and he will say: 'O Lord, settle me under this tree, so that I may seek shade in its shade, eat of its fruit, and drink of its water.' And he will covenant with Him that he will not ask Him for anything else. So He will settle him under it. Then a tree will be raised for him that is better than the first, and more abundant in water. He will say: 'O Lord, settle me under it, I will not ask You for anything else, so that I may seek shade in its shade, eat of its fruit, and drink of its water.' He will say: 'O son of Adam, did you not covenant with Me that you would not ask Me for anything else?' He will say: 'O Lord, this one, I will not ask You for anything else,' and he will covenant with Him that he will not ask Him for anything else. So He will settle him under it. Then a tree will be raised for him at the gate of Paradise that is better than the first two, and more abundant in water. He will say: 'O Lord, this one, settle me under it.' So He will bring him near to it, and he will covenant with Him that he will not ask Him for anything else. Then he will hear the voices of the people of Paradise, and he will not be able to restrain himself, so he will say: 'O Lord, Paradise! O Lord, admit me into Paradise!' Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will say: 'Ask and wish for it.' So he will ask Him and wish for the equivalent of three days of the days of the world, and Allah will prompt him with what he had no knowledge of. So he will ask and wish, and when he finishes, He will say: 'You shall have what you asked for.'" Abu Sa'id said: "And the like of it with it." And Abu Hurayrah said: "And ten times its like with it." One of them said to his companion: "Narrate what you heard, and I will narrate what I heard."
