Hadith 31:74

Qutaybah ibn Sa'id narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi al-Rijal narrated to us, from 'Umarah ibn Ghaziyah, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Sa'id al-Khudri, from his father, who said: My mother sent me to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to ask him [for something]. I came to him and sat down. He turned to me and said: "Whoever seeks to be self-sufficient, Allah will make him self-sufficient; whoever seeks to be chaste, Allah will make him chaste; and whoever seeks to be content, Allah will suffice him. And whoever asks while he possesses the value of an *uqiyah* (ounce of silver), he has been importunate." He said: So I said to myself, "My she-camel, al-Yaqutah, is better than an *uqiyah*." So I returned and did not ask him.
