Abu Ahmad narrated to us, Musarrah ibn Ma'bad narrated to us, Abu 'Ubayd, the chamberlain of Sulayman, narrated to me, saying: I saw 'Ata' ibn Yazid al-Laythi standing and praying, wearing a black turban, with its end hanging down behind him, and his beard was yellowed. I went to pass in front of him, but he turned me back. Then he said: Abu Sa'id al-Khudri narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stood and prayed the morning prayer, and he was behind him. He recited, but the recitation became confused for him. When he finished his prayer, he said: "If you had seen me and Iblis, I reached out with my hand, and I did not cease strangling him until I felt the coolness of his saliva between these two fingers of mine—the thumb and the one next to it. And were it not for the supplication of my brother Sulayman, he would have become tied to a pillar of the pillars of the mosque, for the children of Medina to play with him. So whoever among you is able to not let anyone pass between him and the Qiblah, let him do so." *** Yahya ibn Abi Bukayr narrated to us, Mandil ibn 'Ali narrated to me, al-A'mash narrated to me, from Sa'd al-Ta'i, from 'Atiyyah, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "The possessor of five shall not enter Paradise: one addicted to wine, one who believes in sorcery, one who severs ties of kinship, a soothsayer, and one who reminds others of his favors." *** Abu al-Jawwab narrated to us, 'Ammar ibn Ruzayq narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Sa'd al-Ta'i, from 'Atiyyah, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "The possessor of five shall not enter Paradise: one addicted to intoxicants, one who believes in sorcery, one who severs ties of kinship, one who reminds others of his favors, and a soothsayer."
