Musnad Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (RA)

Hadith 31:840

Abu al-Yaman narrated to us, Shu’ayb informed us, ‘Abdullah ibn Abi Husayn narrated to me, Shahr narrated to me, that Abu Sa’id al-Khudri narrated to him, from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said: "While a Bedouin was in some of the outskirts of Medina with his sheep, a wolf attacked him and took a sheep from his flock. The Bedouin caught up with it, rescued it from him, and shouted at him. The wolf then stood his ground, walking, then sat on his haunches, tucking his tail between his legs, and addressed him, saying: 'You have taken a provision that Allah had provided for me.' The man said: 'How amazing! A wolf sitting on its haunches, tucking its tail, addressing me!' The wolf said: 'By Allah, you are leaving something more amazing than that.' He asked: 'And what is more amazing than that?' The wolf replied: 'The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) among the palm trees between the two lava fields, telling the people about the news of what has passed and what will be after that.' The Bedouin then drove his sheep until he brought them to a part of Medina, then walked to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) until he knocked on his door. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had prayed, he said: 'Where is the Bedouin, the owner of the sheep?' The Bedouin stood up, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him: 'Tell the people what you heard and what you saw.' The Bedouin told the people what he had seen of the wolf and what he had heard from it. At that, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'He has spoken the truth. These are signs that will occur before the Hour. By Him in whose hand is my soul, the Hour will not be established until one of you leaves his family, and his sandal, his whip, or his staff informs him of what his family has done after him.'"
