Musnad Ahmad 31:90

Isma'il narrated to us, Sa'id ibn Yazid informed us, from Abu Nadra, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "As for the people of the Fire who are its inhabitants, they will neither die therein nor live. But there are people—or as he said—whom the Fire will afflict due to their sins—or he said: due to their errors—so it will cause them to die a death. Until, when they become charcoal, permission will be granted for intercession. They will be brought in groups, and they will be spread upon the rivers of Paradise. Then it will be said: 'O people of Paradise, pour upon them.' So they will sprout like the sprouting of a seed that is in the silt of a flood." He said: A man from the people then said: "It is as if the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had been in the desert."
