'Affan narrated to us, Khalid narrated to us, from Suhayl ibn Abi Salih, from Sa'id al-A'sha, from Ayyub ibn Bashir, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever supports three daughters, disciplines them, shows them mercy, and treats them well, then Paradise is for him." 'Abdullah said: My father (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Khalid ibn 'Abdullah—meaning al-Tahhan—Malik ibn Anas, Abu al-Ahwas, and Hammad ibn Zayd died in the year seventy-nine, except that Malik died shortly before Hammad ibn Zayd." My father said: "In that year, I was seeking hadith. We were at the door of Hushaym while he was dictating to us—either he said: the [chapters on] Funerals or the Rites [of Hajj]—when a man from Basra came and said: Hammad ibn Zayd has died, may Allah have mercy on them all."
