Musnad Ahmad 31:94

Isma'il ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated to us, he said: 'Ubayd Allah ibn al-Mughirah ibn Mu'ayqib narrated to me, from Sulayman ibn 'Amr ibn 'Abd al-'Atwari, one of the Banu Layth, and he was an orphan under the care of Abu Sa'id. 'Abd al-Rahman said: My father said: Sulayman ibn 'Amr is Abu al-Haytham, who narrates from Abu Sa'id. He said: I heard Abu Sa'id say: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say: "The Sirat (bridge) will be placed between the two backs of Hell. Upon it are thorns like the thorns of the Sa'dan (a thorny plant). Then the people will pass over it; some will be saved and safe, some will be scratched and then saved, and some will be held back and then cast headlong into it. When Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, finishes judging between the servants, the believers will miss men who were with them in the world; they used to pray their prayers, pay their Zakat as they paid it, fast their fasts, perform their Hajj as they performed it, and fight in their battles. They will say: 'O our Lord, servants from among Your servants were with us in the world; they prayed our prayers, paid our Zakat, fasted our fasts, performed our Hajj, and fought in our battles, but we do not see them.' He will say: 'Go to the Fire, and whoever you find among them therein, bring him out.' He said: They will find that the Fire has taken them according to their deeds. Among them are those whom it took up to their feet, those whom it took up to the middle of their shins, those whom it took up to their knees, those whom it took up to their waist, those whom it took up to their breasts, and those whom it took up to their necks, but it did not cover their faces. They will bring them out of it and cast them into the Water of Life." It was said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is the Water of Life?" He said: "The washing of the people of Paradise. They will sprout as the crop sprouts." And he said once: "In it, just as the crop sprouts in the debris of a flood. Then the Prophets will intercede for everyone who used to testify that there is no god but Allah, sincerely, and they will bring them out of it." He said: "Then Allah will show compassion with His mercy to those who are in it, and He will not leave in it a servant who has in his heart the weight of a grain of faith, but He will bring him out of it."
