Hadith 5:143
Ya'qub narrated to us, my father narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, Hakim ibn Hakim ibn 'Abbad ibn Hunayf narrated to me, from Muhammad ibn Muslim ibn 'Ubayd Allah ibn Shihab, from 'Ali ibn al-Husayn, from his father, from his grandfather 'Ali ibn Abi Talib, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) entered upon me and Fatimah at night, and he woke us up for prayer. He said: Then he returned to his house and prayed for a portion of the night. He said: He did not hear any sound from us. He said: So he returned to us and woke us up and said: "Get up and pray." He said: So I sat up while I was rubbing my eyes, and I said: "By Allah, we do not pray except what has been written for us. Our souls are only in the hand of Allah; if He wills to awaken us, He will awaken us." He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) turned away while he was saying, and striking his hand upon his thigh: "We do not pray except what has been written for us, we do not pray except what has been written for us," {And man is, of all things, most argumentative}.
حدثنا يعقوب، حدثنا أبي، عن ابن إسحاق، حدثني حكيم بن حكيم بن عباد بن حنيف، عن محمد بن مسلم بن عبيد الله بن شهاب، عن علي بن حسين، عن أبيه، عن جده علي بن أبي طالب، قال: دخل علي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وعلى فاطمة من الليل، فأيقظنا للصلاة، قال: ثم رجع إلى بيته فصلى هويا من الليل، قال: فلم يسمع لنا حسا، قال: فرجع إلينا، فأيقظنا وقال: " قوما فصليا " قال: فجلست وأنا أعرك عيني وأقول: إنا والله ما نصلي إلا ما كتب لنا، إنما أنفسنا بيد الله، فإذا شاء أن يبعثنا بعثنا. قال: فولى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وهو يقول، ويضرب بيده على فخذه: " ما نصلي إلا ما كتب لنا، ما نصلي إلا ما كتب لنا " {وكان الإنسان أكثر شيء جدلا}
