Musnad Ahmad 5:171

Waki’ narrated to us, al-A’mash narrated to us, from Muslim al-Batin, from Ali ibn al-Husayn, from Marwan ibn al-Hakam, who said: We were traveling with Uthman, when a man began to recite the talbiyah for both of them [Hajj and Umrah] together. Uthman said: "Who is this?" They said: "Ali." He said: "Do you not know that I have forbidden this?" He [Ali] said: "Yes, but I would not abandon the statement of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) for your statement."
