Hadith 5:275
'Affan narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib informed us, from his father, from 'Ali, that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) married Fatimah to him, he sent with him a velvet blanket, a pillow made of leather stuffed with palm fiber, two hand-mills, a water skin, and two jars. 'Ali said to Fatimah one day: "By Allah, I have drawn water until I complained of my chest." He said: "And Allah has brought your father captives, so go and ask him for a servant." She said: "And I, by Allah, have ground [grain] until my hands have become calloused." So she came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and he said: "What brought you, my daughter?" She said: "I came to greet you." She was too shy to ask him, so she returned. He said: "What did you do?" She said: "I was too shy to ask him." So we both went to him. 'Ali said: "O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, I have drawn water until I complained of my chest." And Fatimah said: "I have ground [grain] until my hands have become calloused, and Allah has brought you captives and abundance, so provide us with a servant." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "By Allah, I will not give you [servants] and leave the People of the Suffah with their stomachs empty, as I find nothing to spend on them. But I will sell them and spend their price on them." So they returned. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to them while they had entered under their blanket; if they covered their heads, their feet were exposed, and if they covered their feet, their heads were exposed. They started to rise, but he said: "Stay where you are." Then he said: "Shall I not inform you of something better than what you asked me for?" They said: "Yes." He said: "Words that Jibril taught me." He said: "Glorify Allah (say SubhanAllah) ten times after every prayer, praise Him (say Alhamdulillah) ten times, and magnify Him (say Allahu Akbar) ten times. And when you go to your bed, glorify Him thirty-three times, praise Him thirty-three times, and magnify Him thirty-four times." He said: "By Allah, I have not abandoned them since the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) taught them to me." Ibn al-Kawwa' said to him: "Not even on the night of Siffin?" He said: "May Allah fight you, O people of Iraq! Yes, not even on the night of Siffin."
