Musnad Ahmad 5:337

Abu al-Yaman narrated to us, Shu'ayb informed us, from al-Zuhri, Ali ibn al-Husayn informed me, that Husayn ibn Ali informed him, that Ali ibn Abi Talib informed him: That the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, came to him and Fatimah, the daughter of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, one night. He said, "Will you not pray?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah, our souls are in the hand of Allah; if He wills to awaken us, He will awaken us." He turned away when I said that, and he did not say anything back to me. Then, as he was turning away, I heard him striking his thigh and saying, "And man is ever, in most things, argumentative."
