Hushaym narrated to us, Abu ‘Amir al-Muzani informed us, a sheikh from Banu Tamim narrated to us, he said: ‘Ali addressed us—or he said: ‘Ali said: “A biting time will come upon the people, in which the wealthy person will bite down on what is in his hands.” He said: “And he was not commanded to do that. Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, says: ‘And do not forget graciousness between you’ [Al-Baqarah: 237].” “The wicked will rise, the virtuous will be humiliated, and the compelled will be forced into transactions.” He said: “And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade the sale of the compelled, the sale of uncertainty (gharar), and the sale of fruit before it is ripe.”
