Hadith 5:399
'Ali ibn 'Asim narrated to us, Isma'il ibn Sami' informed us, from Malik ibn 'Umayr, who said: I was sitting with 'Ali. He said: Then Sa'sa'ah ibn Suhan came and gave the greeting, then he stood and said: "O Commander of the Faithful, forbid us from what the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, forbade you from." He said: "He forbade us from the *duba'* (gourd), the *hantam* (green glazed jar), the *muzaffat* (pitch-coated vessel), and the *naqir* (hollowed-out log). And he forbade us from the *qassi* (silk-blend fabric), the red *maytharah* (saddle cloth), from silk, and from gold rings." Then he said: "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, clothed me in a garment of silk, so I went out in it so that the people might see the clothing of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, upon me." He said: "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, saw me and ordered me to remove them. He sent one of them to Fatimah, and he tore the other between his wives."
