'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Abu Hashim al-Qasim ibn Kathir, from Qays al-Kharifi, who said: I heard 'Ali saying: "The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) preceded, and Abu Bakr prayed, and 'Umar made it three. Then a tribulation struck us—or befell us—and [it was] as Allah, Majestic is His Majesty, willed." Abu 'Abd al-Rahman said: My father said: "His saying 'Then a tribulation struck us,' he intended to be humble by that."
