'Abdullah narrated to us, Surayj ibn Yunus narrated to me, Marwan al-Fazari narrated to us, 'Abd al-Malik ibn Sil' informed us, from 'Abd Khayr, who said: I heard him saying: 'Ali stood upon the pulpit, and he mentioned the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said: "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was taken [in death], and Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, was appointed as successor. He acted according to his [the Prophet's] practice and followed his way, until Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, took him [in death] upon that. Then 'Umar was appointed as successor. He acted according to their practice and followed their way, until Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, took him [in death] upon that."
