Musnad Ahmad 5:546

Waki’ narrated to us, al-A’mash narrated to us, from Sa’d ibn ‘Ubaydah, from Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami, from ‘Ali, who said: We were sitting with the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, at a funeral—I think he said: at Baqi’ al-Gharqad—and he said: He struck the ground with his stick, then he raised his head and said: "There is not one among you except that his seat in Paradise and his seat in the Fire has been written." We said: "O Messenger of Allah, shall we not then rely [upon this]?" He said: "No, act, for everyone is facilitated for what he was created for." Then he recited: "As for he who gives and fears Allah, and believes in the best [reward], We will ease him toward ease. But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need, and denies the best [reward], We will ease him toward difficulty." [Al-Layl: 5-10]
