مسند علي بن أبي طالب (1) رضي الله عنه

Hadith 5:596

Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, Shu‘bah narrated to us, from Isma‘il ibn Sami‘, Malik ibn ‘Umayr narrated to me, he said: Zayd ibn Suhan came to ‘Ali and said: "Tell me what the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, forbade you from." He said: "He forbade me from the *hantam* (green glazed jar), the *duba’* (gourd), the *naqir* (hollowed-out log), the *ju‘ah* (a type of fermented drink), and from the gold ring—or he said: the gold band—and from silk, *al-qassi* (a fabric containing silk), and the red *maytharah* (saddle cloth)." He said: "A silk garment was gifted to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and he clothed me in it. I went out wearing it, then he took it and gave it to Fatimah—or his paternal aunt," Isma‘il says that.
