Hadith 5:641
'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Ma'mar informed us, from 'Ali ibn Zayd, from al-Hasan, from Qays ibn 'Abbad, who said: We were with 'Ali, and whenever he witnessed a scene, or overlooked a hill, or descended into a valley, he would say: "Glory be to Allah, Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth." I said to a man from Banu Yashkur: "Come with us to the Commander of the Faithful, so that we may ask him about his saying: 'Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth.'" He said: So we went to him and said: "O Commander of the Faithful, we saw you whenever you witnessed a scene, or descended into a valley, or overlooked a hill, you would say: 'Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth.' Did the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) entrust you with anything regarding that?" He turned away from us, but we persisted with him. When he saw that, he said: "By Allah, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) did not entrust me with any covenant except for something he entrusted to the people. But the people fell upon 'Uthman and killed him, and there were others besides me who were in a worse state and action regarding it than I. Then I saw that I was the most entitled of them to this matter, so I seized it. Allah knows best whether we were right or wrong." *** 'Abdullah narrated to us, Ishaq ibn Isma'il and Abu Khaythama narrated to us, they said: Waki' narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Abu Ishaq. 'Abdullah said: And my father narrated to me, Waki' narrated to us, Sufyan and Isra'il narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from 'Asim ibn Damra, who said: We asked 'Ali about the voluntary prayers of the Prophet (peace be upon him) during the day. 'Ali said: "Those are sixteen rak'ahs that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would perform as voluntary prayers during the day," and few are those who maintain them. 'Abdullah narrated to us, my father narrated to me, Waki' narrated to us, he said: And my father said: Habib ibn Abi Thabit said: "O Abu Ishaq, I would not like to have the gold that would fill this mosque of yours in exchange for this hadith of yours."
