Musnad Ahmad 5:722

Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, Shu‘bah narrated to us, from Jabir, who said: I heard ‘Abdullah ibn Naji narrating from ‘Ali, who said: I had an hour with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) at night, during which Allah the Almighty would benefit me with whatever He willed to benefit me. He said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "The angels do not enter a house in which there is an image, nor a dog, nor a person in a state of major ritual impurity (junub)." He said: So I looked, and behold, there was a puppy belonging to al-Hasan ibn ‘Ali under the bed, so I took it out.
