'Affan narrated to us, Abu 'Awanah narrated to us, from 'Asim ibn Kulayb, Abu Burdah ibn Abi Musa narrated to me, he said: I was sitting with Abu Musa, and 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came to us. He stood over Abu Musa and commanded him regarding a matter of the people's affairs. 'Ali said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me: "Say: O Allah, guide me and direct me. And remember by 'guidance' your guidance of the path, and remember by 'directness' the directing of the arrow." "And he forbade me from placing my ring on this," and Abu Burdah gestured toward the index finger or the middle finger. 'Asim said: I am the one who was confused as to which of the two he meant. "And he forbade me from the *maytharah* (silk saddlecloth) and the *qasiyyah* (garment)." Abu Burdah said: So I said to the Commander of the Faithful: What is the *maytharah*? And what is the *qasiyyah*? He said: As for the *maytharah*, it is something women used to make for their husbands, which they would place on their saddles. And as for the *qasiyyah*, they were garments that used to come to us from Ash-Sham or Yemen—'Asim was doubtful about which—silk containing patterns like citrons. Abu Burdah said: When I saw the *sabani* (a type of fine cloth), I knew that it was it.
