Abdullah narrated to us, Abu Muhammad Sufyan ibn Waki’ ibn al-Jarrah ibn Mulayh narrated to me, Khalid ibn Makhlad narrated to us, Abu Ghaylan al-Shaybani narrated to us, from al-Hakam ibn ‘Abd al-Malik, from al-Harith ibn Hasirah, from Abu Sadiq, from Rabi’ah ibn Najid, from Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, summoned me and said: "Indeed, there is in you a likeness of Jesus. The Jews hated him until they slandered his mother, and the Christians loved him until they placed him in the position that does not belong to him." "Behold, two types of people will perish regarding me: a lover who praises me with what is not in me, and a hater whose hatred for me carries him to slander me. Behold, I am not a prophet, and it is not revealed to me, but I act according to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, as much as I am able. So, whatever I command you of the obedience of Allah, it is your duty to obey me in it, whether you like it or dislike it."
