Musnad Anas bin Malik (RA)

Hadith 32:1006

'Ubaydah narrated to us, from Humayd al-Tawil, who said: Anas ibn Malik was asked about raising the hands, and he said: Some of the Muslims stood up to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on a Friday and said: "O Messenger of Allah, the rain has ceased, the land has become barren, and the wealth has perished." He said: So he sought rain, and he raised his hands until I saw the whiteness of his armpits, while we did not see a single cloud in the sky. Then he stood and prayed until the one whose house was near began to intend to return to his family due to the intensity of the rain. He said: We remained for seven [days]. Then, when it was [the next] Friday, they said: "O Messenger of Allah, the houses have collapsed and the travelers are detained." He said: So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "O Allah, around us and not upon us." He said: So it cleared away from Medina.
