Bahz and 'Affan narrated to us, they said: Hammam narrated to us, Qatadah informed us, from Anas, that a Jew passed by the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and his companions, and said: "As-sam 'alaykum" (Death be upon you). The companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, responded to him. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "He only said: 'As-sam 'alaykum'." The Jew was then seized and brought, and he confessed. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Return to them what they said."
