Musnad Ahmad 32:107

Ibn Abi ‘Adi narrated to us, from Humayd, from Anas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah loves to meet him, and whoever hates to meet Allah, Allah hates to meet him." We said: "O Messenger of Allah, all of us hate death." He said: "It is not that [kind of] hatred of death. Rather, when the believer is at the point of death, the bringer of glad tidings from Allah comes to him with what he is heading toward, so there is nothing more beloved to him than that he should have met Allah, so Allah loves to meet him. And the wicked person, or the disbeliever, when he is at the point of death, there comes to him what he is heading toward of evil, or what he will encounter of evil, so he hates to meet Allah, and Allah hates to meet him."
