Musnad Ahmad 32:117

Ibn Abi ‘Adi narrated to us, from Humayd, from Anas, that ‘Abdullah ibn Salam came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) upon his arrival in Medina and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I am going to ask you about three things which no one knows except a prophet." He said: "Ask." He said: "What is the first of the signs of the Hour? What is the first thing the people of Paradise will eat? And from where does the child resemble his father and his mother?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Gabriel (peace be upon him) has just informed me of them." He said: "That is the enemy of the Jews among the angels." He said: "As for the first of the signs of the Hour, it is a fire that will emerge from the East and gather the people to the West. As for the first thing the people of Paradise will eat, it is the caudate lobe of a whale’s liver. As for the child’s resemblance to his father and mother, if the man’s fluid precedes the woman’s fluid, the child will resemble him, and if the woman’s fluid precedes the man’s fluid, the child will resemble her." He said: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and that you are the Messenger of Allah." He then said: "O Messenger of Allah, the Jews are a people of falsehood, and if they learn of my Islam, they will slander me to you. So send for them and ask them about me: 'What kind of man is Ibn Salam among you?'" He said: So he sent for them and said: "What kind of man is ‘Abdullah ibn Salam among you?" They said: "He is the best of us and the son of the best of us, our scholar and the son of our scholar, and the most learned of us and the son of the most learned of us." He said: "What do you think if he were to accept Islam, would you accept Islam?" They said: "May Allah protect him from that." He said: Then Ibn Salam came out and said: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." They said: "He is the worst of us and the son of the worst of us, our ignorant one and the son of our ignorant one." Ibn Salam said: "This is what I feared from them."
