Hadith 32:1252
'Abd al-Samad narrated to us, Hammam narrated to us, Ishaq narrated to us, from Anas, that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent Haram, the brother of Umm Sulaym, his maternal uncle, with seventy men, they were killed on the day of Bi'r Ma'una. The leader of the polytheists on that day was 'Amir ibn al-Tufayl. He had come to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: "Choose one of three things from me: the people of the plains will be yours and the people of the desert will be mine, or I will be the successor after you, or I will raid you with Ghatafan with a thousand bay horses and a thousand chestnut horses." He said: Then he was struck by a plague in the house of a woman from the tribe of so-and-so. He said: "A swelling like the swelling of a camel in the house of a woman from the tribe of so-and-so! Bring me my horse." It was brought to him, and he mounted it, and he died while he was on its back. Haram, the brother of Umm Sulaym, set out with two men who were with him: a man from Banu Umayyah and a lame man. He said to them: "Stay near me until I go to them. If they grant me safety, then [it is well], otherwise you will be near; if they kill me, you will inform your companions." He said: Haram went to them and said: "Will you grant me safety so that I may convey to you the message of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)?" They said: "Yes." He began to speak to them, and they signaled to a man among them behind him, who stabbed him until he pierced him through with a spear. He said: "Allah is the Greatest! I have succeeded, by the Lord of the Ka'bah." He said: Then they killed them all except the lame man, who was on top of a mountain. Anas said: Then it was revealed to us, and it was among what was recited, then it was abrogated: "Inform our people that we have met our Lord, and He is pleased with us and has pleased us." He said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) invoked curses upon them for forty mornings: upon Ri'l, Dhakwan, Banu Lihyan, and Usayyah, who disobeyed Allah and His Messenger.
