'Abd al-Samad narrated to us, my father narrated to me, 'Abd al-'Aziz narrated to us, he said: Anas ibn Malik narrated to us, he said: The Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) approached Medina, and he had Abu Bakr riding behind him. Abu Bakr was an old man who was known, and the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was a young man who was not known. He said: A man would meet Abu Bakr and say: "O Abu Bakr, who is this man in front of you?" He would say: "This man guides me to the path." The person would think that he meant the road, while he meant the path of goodness. Abu Bakr turned around and saw a horseman who had caught up with them. He said: "O Prophet of Allah, this is a horseman who has caught up with us." The Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) turned and said: "O Allah, throw him down." His horse threw him down, then it stood up neighing. He said: Then he said: "O Prophet of Allah, command me as you wish." He said: "Stay where you are; do not let anyone catch up with us." He said: At the beginning of the day, he was striving against the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and at the end of the day, he was a guard for him. He said: The Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) descended at the side of al-Harrah, then he sent for the Ansar. They came to the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and greeted them both, and said: "Ride, safe and obeyed." He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and Abu Bakr rode, and they surrounded them with weapons. It was said in Medina: "The Prophet of Allah has come." They looked out for the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), watching him and saying: "The Prophet of Allah has come." He approached, traveling until he descended at the side of the house of Abu Ayyub. He was speaking to his family when 'Abdullah ibn Salam heard of him, while he was in a palm grove of his family, harvesting for them. He hurried to put down what he was harvesting, and he came with it, and he heard from the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), then he returned to his family. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Which of our family's houses is closest?" Abu Ayyub said: "I am, O Prophet of Allah; this is my house and this is my door." He said: "Go and prepare a resting place for us." He said: He went and prepared a resting place for them both, then he came and said: "O Prophet of Allah, I have prepared a resting place for you both, so rise with the blessing of Allah and rest." When the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came, 'Abdullah ibn Salam came and said: "I bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah in truth, and that you have come with the truth. The Jews know that I am their leader and the son of their leader, and the most learned among them and the son of the most learned among them. So call them and ask them." They entered upon him, and the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to them: "O assembly of Jews, woe to you! Fear Allah. For by the One besides whom there is no god, you know that I am the Messenger of Allah in truth, and that I have come to you with the truth. Accept Islam." They said: "We do not know that," three times.
