Hadith 32:1353
'Abd al-Samad narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, from Thabit, from Anas, that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) consulted the people on the day of Badr. Abu Bakr spoke, and he turned away from him. Then 'Umar spoke, and he turned away from him. The Ansar said: "O Messenger of Allah, is it us you want?" Al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad said: "O Messenger of Allah, by the One in Whose hand is my soul, if you were to order us to drive them into the sea, we would drive them into it. And if you were to order us to strike their camels' flanks until we reached Bark al-Ghimad, we would do it. So proceed, O Messenger of Allah." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) called upon his companions, and they set out until they arrived at Badr. The water-carriers of Quraysh came, and among them was a black boy belonging to the Banu al-Hajjaj. The companions of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) seized him and asked him about Abu Sufyan and his companions. He said: "As for Abu Sufyan, I have no knowledge of him, but here is Quraysh; Abu Jahl and Umayyah ibn Khalaf have come." They would beat him, and when they beat him, he would say: "Yes, this is Abu Sufyan." When they would leave him, they would ask him about Abu Sufyan, and he would say: "I have no knowledge of Abu Sufyan, but here is Quraysh that has come." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was praying, and when he finished, he said: "You beat him when he tells you the truth, and you leave him when he lies to you." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) gestured with his hand and placed it, saying: "This is the place where so-and-so will fall tomorrow, and this is the place where so-and-so will fall tomorrow, if Allah the Almighty wills." They met, and Allah the Almighty defeated them. By Allah, not one of them moved from the spot where the hand of the Prophet (ﷺ) had been placed. He said: The Prophet (ﷺ) went out to them after three days, and they had begun to decompose. He said: "O Abu Jahl, O 'Utbah, O Shaybah, O Umayyah: Have you found what your Lord promised you to be true? For I have found what my Lord promised me to be true." 'Umar said to him: "O Messenger of Allah, do you call out to them after three days when they have decomposed?" He replied: "You are not more hearing of what I say than they are, except that they cannot answer." Then he ordered them, and they were dragged by their feet and thrown into the well of Badr.
