Musnad Ahmad 32:1615

Muhammad ibn Yazid narrated to us, Abu Salamah—the owner of the food—narrated to us, he said: Jabir ibn Yazid—and he is not Jabir al-Ju'fi—informed me, from al-Rabi' ibn Anas, from Anas ibn Malik, who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent me to Haliq the Christian so that he would send him garments on credit. I came to him and said: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent me to you so that you would send him garments on credit." He said: "What is credit? And when is credit? By Allah, Muhammad does not have a bleating animal nor a lowing animal." So I returned and came to the Prophet (ﷺ). When he saw me, he said: "The enemy of Allah has lied. I am the best of those who make contracts. For one of you to wear a garment made of various patches is better for him than to take on credit—or in his trust—what he does not possess." Abu Abd al-Rahman said: "I found this hadith in my father’s book in his own handwriting."
