Musnad Ahmad 32:1632

Affan narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, Thabit narrated to us, from Anas ibn Malik, that the Jews, when a woman among them menstruated, would expel her from the house, and they would not eat with her, nor would they have intercourse with her. The companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, asked about that, so Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed: "And they ask you about menstruation. Say, 'It is harm, so keep away from women during menstruation'" [Al-Baqarah: 222], until He finished the verse. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, commanded them to do everything except intercourse. The Jews said, "What does this man want? He does not leave anything of our affairs except that he opposes us in it." Then Abbad ibn Bishr and Usayd ibn Hudayr came and said, "O Messenger of Allah, the Jews said such and such, so shall we not have intercourse with them?" The face of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, changed until we thought he was angry with them. They left his presence, and a gift of milk was met by them for the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. He sent after them and gave them to drink, so we thought that he was not angry with them.
