Musnad Ahmad 32:1664

Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, Shu‘bah narrated to us, from Abu al-Tayyah, who said: I heard Anas ibn Malik say: When Makkah was conquered, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) distributed the spoils among the Quraysh. The Ansar said: "This is truly strange; our swords are dripping with their blood, yet our spoils are returned to them." This reached the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), so he gathered them and said: "What is this that has reached me concerning you?" They replied: "It is what has reached you," and they would not lie. He said: "Are you not pleased that the people return with the worldly life, while you return with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) to your homes? If the people were to travel through a valley—or a mountain pass—and the Ansar were to travel through a valley—or a mountain pass—I would travel through the valley of the Ansar, or the mountain pass of the Ansar."
