Hadith 32:1739
Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, Sa‘id narrated to us, dictating from Qatadah, from Anas ibn Malik, that [the tribes of] Ri‘l, ‘Usayyah, Dhakwan, and Banu Lihyan came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and informed him that they had embraced Islam, and they sought his aid against their people. So, the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, aided them with seventy of the Ansar. He said: We used to call them "the reciters" (al-qurra') in their time; they would gather firewood by day and pray by night. When they reached the Well of Ma‘unah, they betrayed them and killed them. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, performed Qunut for a month, supplicating against these tribes: ‘Usayyah, Ri‘l, Dhakwan, and Banu Lihyan. And Anas narrated to us: "We used to recite a Quran [verse] regarding them: 'Convey to our people on our behalf that we have met our Lord, and He is pleased with us and has made us pleased.' Then it was abrogated or lifted."
