Musnad Ahmad 32:194

Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us, from al-Akhdar ibn 'Ajlan, Abu Bakr al-Hanafi narrated to me, from Anas ibn Malik, that a man from the Ansar came to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and complained to him of need. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to him: "Do you not have anything?" He brought him a saddlecloth and a wooden bowl. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Who will buy these?" A man said: "I will take them for one dirham." He said: "Who will offer more than one dirham?" The people remained silent. He said: "Who will offer more than one dirham?" A man said: "I will take them for two dirhams." He said: "They are yours." Then he said: "Begging is not permissible except for one of three: a person who has a painful blood-money debt, a person who has a crushing debt, or a person who is in abject poverty."
