Hadith 32:2032

'Affan narrated to us, Sulaym ibn Akhdar narrated to us, Ibn 'Awn narrated to us, Hisham ibn Zayd narrated to me, from Anas ibn Malik, who said: When the day of Hunayn arrived, and Hawazin and Ghatafan gathered a great multitude against the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was on that day with ten thousand, or more than ten thousand, he said: And with him were the Tulaqa' (those freed at the conquest of Makkah). He said: They came with the livestock and the offspring, and they placed them behind their backs. He said: When they met, the people turned away. He said: And the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was on that day upon a white mule. He said: So he dismounted and said: "I am the servant of Allah and His Messenger." He said: And he called out on that day two calls, not mixing any speech between them. He turned to his right and said: "O company of the Ansar!" They said: "At your service, O Messenger of Allah, proceed, we are with you." Then he turned to his left and said: "O company of the Ansar!" They said: "At your service, O Messenger of Allah, we are with you." Then he descended to the ground, and they met, and they (the enemy) were defeated, and they (the Muslims) obtained spoils. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, gave to the Tulaqa' and distributed among them. The Ansar said: "We are called upon during hardship, and the spoils are distributed to others besides us." That reached the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, so he gathered them and sat in a tent and said: "O company of the Ansar, what is this talk that has reached me from you?" They remained silent. Then he said: "O company of the Ansar, if the people were to travel through a valley, and the Ansar were to travel through a mountain pass, I would take the mountain pass of the Ansar." Then he said: "Are you not pleased that the people go away with the worldly life, while you go away with the Messenger of Allah, taking him back to your homes?" They said: "We are pleased, O Messenger of Allah, we are pleased." Ibn 'Awn said: Hisham ibn Zayd said: So I said to Anas: "And were you a witness to that?" He said: "And where would I be absent from that?"
