Musnad Ahmad 32:2121

'Affan narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, he said: Thabit informed us, from Anas, that a son of Abu Talhah died. Umm Sulaym said: "Do not inform Abu Talhah until I am the one who informs him." She covered him [the child]. When Abu Talhah came, she placed food before him, and he ate. Then she perfumed herself for him, and he had relations with her, and she became pregnant with a boy. She said: "O Abu Talhah, if the family of so-and-so borrowed a loan from the family of so-and-so, and they sent to them, 'Send us our loan,' and they refused to return it, [would that be right]?" Abu Talhah said: "That is not for them; the loan must be returned to its owners." She said: "Then your son was a loan from Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, and Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, has taken him back." So he said: "To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return." Anas said: The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was informed of that, and he said: "May Allah bless them in their night." He said: She became pregnant with a boy and gave birth. Umm Sulaym sent him with me to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and she carried dates. I came with him to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, while he was wearing a cloak, and he was smearing a camel of his [with tar]. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Do you have dates with you?" I said: "Yes." He took the dates and put them in his mouth, then chewed them. Then he gathered his saliva, then opened the boy's mouth and put it into it. The boy began to smack his lips. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "The love of the Ansar is dates." He performed *tahnik* on him and named him Abdullah. There was no young man among the Ansar better than him.
