Musnad Ahmad 32:514

Yahya ibn Hammad narrated to us, Abu 'Awanah narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Anas, from the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him: "Three people among those who came before you set out seeking [provisions] for their families, and the sky overtook them [with rain], so they entered a cave. A rock fell upon them, blocking it, until they could not see a crack in it. Some of them said to others: 'The rock has fallen, the tracks are erased, and no one knows of your location except Allah. So call upon Allah by the most reliable of your deeds.' One of them said: 'O Allah, if You know that I had two parents, and I used to milk for them into their vessel and bring it to them. If I found them sleeping, I would stand at their heads, disliking to disturb their sleep, until they woke up whenever they woke up. O Allah, if You know that I only did that out of hope for Your mercy and fear of Your punishment, then relieve us.' He said: So a third of the rock moved away. The other said: 'O Allah, if You know that I hired a worker for work he was to perform, and he came to me seeking his wage, and I was angry, so I rebuked him. He left and abandoned that wage of his, so I gathered it and invested it until it became all that wealth. Then he came to me seeking his wage, and I gave him all of it. If I had wished, I would not have given him anything except his original wage. O Allah, if You know that I only did that out of hope for Your mercy and fear of Your punishment, then relieve us.' He said: So two-thirds of the rock moved away. The third said: 'O Allah, if You know that a woman pleased me, and I set a price for her. When I had power over her and she surrendered herself to me, I gave her the price. O Allah, if You know that I only did that out of hope for Your mercy and fear of Your punishment, then relieve us.' So the rock moved away, and they walked out, stretching their necks, walking together."
