Yunus narrated to us, Shaiban narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Anas, who said: Anas ibn Malik narrated that the Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, ordered twenty-some men from the chieftains of Quraysh, and they were thrown into a well among the wells of Badr, foul and filthy. He said: And it was his custom, when he overcame a people, to stay in the open ground for three nights. He said: So when he overcame the people of Badr, he stayed for three nights. When the third day came, he ordered his riding camel, and its saddle was fastened. Then he walked, and his companions followed him. They said: We do not see him setting off except to relieve himself. He said: Until he stood at the edge of the well. He began calling them by their names and the names of their fathers: "O so-and-so, son of so-and-so! Would it have pleased you to have obeyed Allah and His Messenger? Have you found what your Lord promised you to be true?" Umar said: O Prophet of Allah, are you speaking to bodies that have no souls? He said: "By Him in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, you are not more hearing of what I say than they are." Qatadah said: "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, brought them to life for him until they heard his words as a rebuke, a belittlement, and a vengeance." *** Isma'il ibn Muhammad—who is Abu Ibrahim al-Mu'aqqab—narrated to us, 'Abbad—meaning Ibn 'Abbad—narrated to us, from 'Asim, from Anas ibn Malik, who said: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, established a bond of brotherhood between the Quraysh and the Ansar in my house which is in Medina." Abu 'Abd al-Rahman said: Abu Ibrahim al-Mu'aqqab narrated it to us, "And he was among the best of people," and Abu 'Abd al-Rahman held his status in very high regard.
