Musnad Anas bin Malik (RA)

Hadith 32:877

'Abd al-Malik ibn 'Amr narrated to us, Hisham narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Anas, who said: The people asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) until they pressed him with questioning. So he ascended the pulpit one day and said: "Do not ask me about anything except that I will clarify it for you." Anas said: I began looking to the right and to the left, and behold, every person had wrapped his head in his garment, weeping. He said: Then a man stood up—who, when he disputed, would be attributed to someone other than his father—and said: "O Messenger of Allah, who is my father?" He said: "Your father is Hudhafah." (Abu 'Amir said: And I think he said: Then a man said: "O Messenger of Allah, am I in Paradise or in the Fire?" He said: "In the Fire.") He said: Then 'Umar stood up and said: "We are pleased with Allah as Lord, with Islam as a religion, and with Muhammad as a Prophet. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil of the tribulations." He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) then said: "I have never seen the like of today in terms of good and evil. Indeed, Paradise and the Fire were displayed before me, until I saw them right behind this wall."
