Hadith 32:88
Ibn Abi ‘Adi narrated to us, from Humayd, from Anas, who said: A son of Abu Talhah fell ill, so Abu Talhah went out to the mosque, and the boy passed away. Umm Sulaym prepared the deceased. She said to her household: "Let none of you inform Abu Talhah of the death of his son." He returned to his family, and with him were people from the mosque, his companions. He said: "How is the boy?" She said: "He is better than he has ever been." She brought their dinner near to them, so they ate dinner, and the people left. The woman then stood up to do what a woman does. When it was the end of the night, she said: "O Abu Talhah, have you not seen the family of so-and-so? They borrowed a loan and enjoyed it, then when it was requested back, it was as if they disliked that." He said: "They were not fair." She said: "Indeed, your son was a loan from Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, and Allah has taken him back." So he said "Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un" (To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return) and praised Allah. When morning came, he went early to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. When he saw him, he said: "May Allah bless for you both your night." She became pregnant with ‘Abdullah and gave birth to him at night. She disliked to perform the *tahnik* (chewing a date and rubbing it on the baby's palate) until the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, performed the *tahnik* for him. He said: So I carried him in the morning, and with me were some ‘Ajwah dates. I found him smearing his camels, or branding them. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, Umm Sulaym has given birth tonight, and I disliked to perform the *tahnik* until the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, performs the *tahnik* for him." He said: "Do you have anything with you?" I said: "Some ‘Ajwah dates." He took some of them and chewed them, then gathered his saliva and put it into his mouth. He began to smack his lips, so he said: "The love of the Ansar is dates." He said: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, name him." He said: "He is ‘Abdullah."
