Hadith 32:922

Abu Abd al-Rahman said: I read this hadith to my father, and he found it and affirmed it, and he narrated some of it to us in another place. He said: Musa ibn Hilal al-'Abdi narrated to us, Hammam narrated to us, from Ibn Sirin, from Anas ibn Malik, who said: Abu Talha married Umm Sulaym, and she was the mother of Anas and al-Bara'. He said: She bore him a son. He said: He loved him with an intense love. He said: The boy became severely ill. Abu Talha used to stand for the morning prayer, perform ablution, and come to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and pray with him, and he would be with him until near midday. Then he would come, take a midday nap, and eat. When he prayed the Dhuhr prayer, he would prepare himself and leave, and he would not come back until the night prayer. He said: He went out one evening, and the boy died. He said: Abu Talha came, and she covered him with a garment and left him. He said: Abu Talha said to her: "O Umm Sulaym, how did my son spend the night?" She said: "O Abu Talha, your son has not been calmer since he became ill than he is tonight." He said: Then she brought him food, and he ate and his soul was at ease. He said: Then he stood up to his bed and laid his head down. She said: And I stood up and touched some perfume, then I came until I entered the bed with him, and no sooner had he sensed the scent of the perfume than there occurred from him what occurs from a man to his wife. He said: Then Abu Talha woke up in the morning preparing himself as he used to prepare himself every day. He said: She said to him: "O Abu Talha, what do you think if a man entrusted you with a deposit, and you enjoyed it, then he asked for it back and took it from you, would you be distressed by that?" He said: "No." I said: "Then your son has died." Anas said: He was distressed for him with an intense distress, and he told the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, about what had happened regarding the food and the perfume, and what had occurred between him and her. He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Alas! Did you spend the night as newlyweds while he was beside you?" He said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "May Allah bless you both in your night." He said: Umm Sulaym became pregnant that night. He said: She gave birth to a boy. He said: When morning came, Abu Talha said to me: "Carry him in a cloth until you bring him to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and carry some Ajwa dates with you." He said: So I carried him in a cloth. He said: And he had not been given *tahnik* (chewed dates rubbed on the palate), and he had not tasted food or anything. He said: So I said: "O Messenger of Allah, Umm Sulaym has given birth." He said: "Allahu Akbar, what did she give birth to?" I said: "A boy." He said: "Praise be to Allah." Then he said: "Bring him to me." So I handed him to him, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, performed *tahnik* on him. Then he said to him: "Do you have Ajwa dates with you?" I said: "Yes." So I brought out some dates, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, took a date and put it in his mouth. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, kept chewing it until it mixed with his saliva, then he gave it to the boy. No sooner had the boy sensed the sweetness of the date than he began to suck the sweetness of the date and the saliva of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. So the first thing that opened the intestines of that boy was the saliva of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "The love of the Ansar is for dates." He was named Abdullah ibn Abi Talha. He said: A large number of men descended from him. He said: And Abdullah was martyred in Persia.
