Musnad Ahmad 623:4

Husayn ibn Muhammad narrated to us, Sharik narrated to us, from Layth, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, from ‘Amr ibn Kharijah al-Thumali, who said: I asked the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, about the sacrificial animal (hady) that becomes incapacitated. He said: "Slaughter it, and dip its sandal (or hoof) in its blood, and strike its side with it—or he said: its flank—and do not eat anything of it, neither you nor the people of your company."
