The Hadith of 'Abbad ibn Shurahbil from the Prophet (SAW)

Hadith 496:1

Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, Shu‘bah narrated to us, from Abu Bishr, who said: I heard ‘Abbad ibn Sharhabil—and he was one of us, from the tribe of Ghubr—say: A year of famine afflicted us, so I came to Medina. I entered one of its gardens, took some ears of grain, rubbed them, ate from them, and carried some in my garment. The owner of the garden came, struck me, and took my garment. I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and he said: "You did not teach him when he was ignorant, nor did you feed him when he was hungry or starving." He then returned my garment to me and ordered that I be given half a wasq—or a wasq—of grain.
