Musnad Ahmad 495:4

Yahya ibn Adam narrated to us, Ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, from Yunus, from al-Zuhri, from Abdullah ibn al-Harith ibn Nawfal, from Abd al-Muttalib ibn Rabi’ah ibn al-Harith: That he and al-Fadl came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) so that he might marry them off and appoint them to collect the charity, so that they might obtain something from it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Indeed, this charity is only the impurities of the people, and it is not lawful for Muhammad nor for the family of Muhammad." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to Mahmiyah al-Zubaydi: "Marry off al-Fadl." And he said to Nawfal ibn al-Harith ibn Abd al-Muttalib: "Marry off Abd al-Muttalib ibn Rabi’ah." And he said to Mahmiyah ibn Juz’ al-Zubaydi—and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to employ him over the fifths—so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered him to give them something from the fifth, though Abdullah ibn al-Harith did not name it. At the beginning of this hadith: Ali met them and said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) will not employ you." They said: "This is your envy." He said: "I am the father of the people's needs; I will not depart until I see what he replies to you." When they spoke to him, he remained silent, and Zaynab began to signal with her garment that he was attending to your need.
