Hadith of Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Bakr (RA)

حديث عبد الرحمن بن أبي بكر (1) رضي الله عنه

Hadith 12:1

Muhammad ibn Abi ‘Adi narrated to us, from Sulayman—meaning al-Taymi—from Abu ‘Uthman, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr, who said: Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, brought a guest of his—or guests of his—and he stayed until evening with the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. When it became evening, my mother said to him: "You have been detained from your guest—or guests—since tonight." He said: "Did you not give them dinner?" She said: "No." She said: "I offered that to him—or them—but they refused—or he refused." He said: Abu Bakr became angry and swore that he would not eat it, and the guest—or guests—swore that they would not eat it until he ate it. Abu Bakr said: "This must be from Satan." He said: So he called for the food, and he ate, and they ate. He said: They would not lift a morsel except that it grew from beneath it more than it was. He said: He said: "O sister of Banu Firas, what is this?" She said: "The coolness of my eyes, it is now more than it was before we ate." So they ate, and he sent it to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and it was mentioned that he ate from it.
