Hadith of ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla, from Ubayy ibn Ka‘b (RA)

Hadith 926:4

Abdullah narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr al-Muqaddami narrated to me, Umar ibn Ali narrated to us, from Abu Janab, from Abdullah ibn Isa, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla, Ubayy ibn Ka'b narrated to me, he said: I was with the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, when a Bedouin came and said: "O Prophet of Allah, I have a brother who has an ailment." He said: "And what is his ailment?" He said: "He has a touch of madness." He said: "Bring him to me." So he placed him before him, and the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, sought refuge for him by reciting the Opening of the Book (Al-Fatiha), and four verses from the beginning of Surat al-Baqarah, and these two verses: {And your God is one God} [Al-Baqarah: 163], and the Verse of the Throne (Ayat al-Kursi), and three verses from the end of Surat al-Baqarah, and a verse from Al-Imran: {Allah witnesses that there is no deity except Him} [Al-Imran: 18], and a verse from Al-A'raf: {Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth}, and the end of Surat al-Mu'minun: {So exalted is Allah, the Sovereign, the Truth} [Al-Mu'minun: 116], and a verse from Surat al-Jinn: {And [it is] that exalted is the grandeur of our Lord} [Al-Jinn: 3], and ten verses from the beginning of As-Saffat, and three verses from the end of Surat al-Hashr, and "Say, He is Allah, [who is] One" (Al-Ikhlas), and the two verses of seeking refuge (Al-Falaq and An-Nas). Then the man stood up as if he had never complained of any ailment at all.
