Musnad Ahmad 769:37

Remainder of the Hadith of Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (RA), from the Prophet (SAW)

Hadith 769:37

Abu Nu'aym narrated to us, Mis'ar narrated to us, from Ibrahim al-Saksaki, from Ibn Abi Awfa, who said: A man came to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and said: "I am not able to learn anything from the Quran, so teach me something that will suffice me in place of the Quran." He said: "Say: 'Glory be to God (Subhan Allah), and praise be to God (al-Hamdulillah), and there is no god but God (la ilaha illa Allah), and God is the Greatest (Allahu Akbar), and there is no power and no strength except by God (la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah).'" He said: So he went away, or stood up, or something similar, and said: "This is for God, the Almighty and Majestic, so what is for me?" He said: "Say: 'O God, forgive me, and have mercy on me, and grant me well-being, and guide me, and provide for me' — or 'provide for me, and guide me, and grant me well-being.'" Mis'ar said: And perhaps he said: "I inquired about some of it from Abu Khalid," meaning al-Dalani.
