Hadith 769:39
Husayn ibn Muhammad narrated to us, Shu‘bah narrated to us, from Ibrahim al-Hajari, from ‘Abdullah ibn Abi Awfa—and he was among the Companions of the Tree—that a daughter of his died. He was following her funeral procession on a mule behind it, and the women began to wail. He said: "Do not wail, for the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) forbade wailing. Let one of you shed as many tears as she wishes." Then he performed four takbirs over her. Then he stood after the fourth [takbir] for the duration of the time between the two takbirs, supplicating. Then he said: "The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) used to do this at the funeral."
