Hadith of ‘Abdullah bin Abi Hadrad (RA)
Hadith 1114:2
Ya'qub narrated to us, my father narrated to us, from 'Abdullah ibn Ja'far, from 'Abd al-Wahid ibn Abi 'Awn, from his grandmother, from Ibn Abi Hadrad al-Aslami, that he mentioned: He married a woman, so he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) seeking his help for her dowry. He said: "How much did you set as a dowry?" I said: Two hundred dirhams. He said: "If you were scooping dirhams from this valley of yours, you would not have added more. I do not have anything to give you." He said: I remained for a while, then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) called me and sent me in a military detachment he dispatched toward Najd. He said: "Go out in this detachment, perhaps you will obtain something, and I will grant it to you as spoils." He said: We went out until we reached the encampment at evening. He said: When the darkness of the night set in, our commander sent us out in pairs. He said: We surrounded the camp, and he said: "When I say 'Allahu Akbar' and charge, you say 'Allahu Akbar' and charge." And he said, when he sent us in pairs: "Do not separate, for I will ask one of you about the news of his companion, and I do not want to find that he does not know it. And do not go too far in pursuit." He said: When we intended to charge, I heard a man from the encampment shout: "O Khadra!" So I took it as a good omen that we would obtain "khadra" (greenery/wealth) from them. He said: When it became very dark, our commander said "Allahu Akbar" and charged, and we said "Allahu Akbar" and charged. He said: A man passed by me with a sword in his hand, so I followed him. My companion said to me: "Our commander has made a covenant with us not to go too far in pursuit, so return." When I saw nothing but to follow him, he said: "By Allah, you will either return, or I will return to him and inform him that you refused." I said: "By Allah, I will follow him." He said: I followed him until, when I drew near to him, I shot him with an arrow at the middle of his back, and he fell. He said: "Draw near, O Muslim, to Paradise." When he saw that I would not draw near to him, I shot him with another arrow, and I incapacitated him. He threw his sword at me but missed me, so I took the sword and killed him with it, and I severed his head with it. We pressed on and took many camels and sheep. He said: Then we departed. He said: I woke up in the morning, and there was my camel, and tied to it was a camel carrying a beautiful, young woman. He said: She began to look behind her and say "Allahu Akbar." I said to her: "Where are you looking?" She said: "Toward a man who, by Allah, if he were alive, would have mingled with you." He said: I said—and I thought it was my companion whom I had killed—: "By Allah, I have killed him, and this is his sword, and it is hanging on the saddle of the camel I am on." He said: The sword scabbard had nothing in it, hanging on the saddle of her camel. When I said that to her, she said: "Then take this scabbard and insert it into it, if you are truthful." He said: I took it and inserted it into it, and it fit perfectly. He said: When she saw that, she wept. He said: We arrived at the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and he gave me from that livestock which we had brought back.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
