Hadith of Abdullah bin Mughaffal al-Muzani (RA) from the Prophet (SAW)

Hadith 430:14

Zayd ibn al-Hubab narrated to us, he said: Husayn ibn Waqid narrated to me, he said: Thabit al-Bunani narrated to me, from Abdullah ibn Mughaffal al-Muzani, who said: We were with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, at al-Hudaybiyyah at the base of the tree which Allah the Exalted mentioned in the Quran. The branches of that tree were falling upon the back of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, while Ali ibn Abi Talib and Suhayl ibn Amr were before him. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to Ali, may Allah be pleased with him: "Write: In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful." Suhayl ibn Amr took his hand and said: "We do not recognize 'the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.' Write in our matter what we recognize." He said: "Write: In Your name, O Allah." So he wrote: "This is what Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, has agreed upon with the people of Makkah." Suhayl ibn Amr took his hand and said: "We have wronged you if you are His Messenger. Write in our matter what we recognize." He said: "Write: This is what Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abd al-Muttalib has agreed upon, and I am the Messenger of Allah." So he wrote it. While we were like that, thirty young men emerged upon us carrying weapons. They rose up in our faces, so the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, supplicated against them, and Allah the Exalted seized their vision. We advanced toward them and captured them. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Did you come under the covenant of anyone, or did anyone grant you safety?" They said: "No." So he released them. Then Allah the Exalted revealed: {And it is He who withheld their hands from you and your hands from them within [the area of] Makkah after He caused you to overcome them. And ever is Allah, of what you do, Seeing.} [Al-Fath: 24] Abu Abd al-Rahman said: Hammad ibn Salamah said in this hadith: From Thabit, from Anas. And Husayn ibn Waqid said: From Abdullah ibn Mughaffal. And this is the correct version in my view, if Allah wills.
